The welcoming interior of the Strand and Lock salon in Digbeth, Birmingham

Everyone welcome

An Inclusive Salon in the Heart of Digbeth

Strand & Lock was built as a space where anyone can sit in the chair and be looked after properly. All hair types, all genders, all backgrounds and all lifestyles.

In short

Strand & Lock on Gibb Street in Digbeth is an inclusive hair and nail salon: curly, coily, wavy and afro-textured hair specialists who welcome every hair type, gender identity and background. Services are chosen by what you want, not by a gendered price list, and the team consults with you before anything starts.

What inclusive actually means here

It means the team is confident with textured hair rather than apologetic about it. It means you are asked how you want to be addressed and how you wear your hair, not told what suits your face shape.

  • Every hair type welcome, from fine straight hair to tight coils and afro texture
  • Services chosen by the work involved, not by gender
  • Consultation first, so nothing happens that you did not agree to
  • A calm, hygienic space where you can say what you actually want

Specialists in curls, coils and waves

Textured hair is our daily work, not an occasional request. If you have been passed between salons that could not cut your curl pattern, our stylists will look at your hair dry and in its natural state and build a shape that grows out well.

Hair and nails under one roof

Alongside hair we offer gel polish manicures and pedicures, builder gel, gel extensions and infills, so a full appointment can be done in one visit.

Part of the Digbeth community

You will find us at Unit 12 & 13, Gibb Street, opposite The Custard Factory reception, surrounded by Digbeth's studios, venues and independents. We are minutes from Birmingham New Street, Moor Street and the coach station, and easy to reach from Moseley, Kings Heath, Handsworth, Edgbaston, Erdington and Solihull.

Common questions
